The sights and sounds of the Urban Landscape weave a distinctive tapestry of color and texture throughout all of my work. I have chosen “The Urban Landscape” & “Travel Reflections” as my focus, because cities have always held a special fascination for me. They trigger memory and emotion of of an earlier time of traveling with Grandmother Edwards up and down the East Coast.
Walking city streets connects me with a timeless energy I endeavor to impart in my paintings. I wish to give the urban landscape an emphatic and personal quality. I don’t give a literal rendering of known places but more of an ephemeral sensation of the sights and sounds I feel being expressed through me as I paint.
My goal is to bring added dimension to the viewer of what a cityscape can be. I want the viewer to be drawn into the work, spending time looking and experiencing what a city is: stimulating their imagination. My goal is to entice the viewer in a visceral way, hearing the noise and feeling the place one feels visiting a city for the first, fourth or fortieth time.
My passion for cities as landscapes continues in my new Travel Reflections: Oceanside and Yucatan series. Here the topics are derived from a trip down the scenic coast of California and traveling along the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. |
